I really enjoyed the course and I would highly recommend this book study to my colleagues. I really enjoyed the books and the videos throughout the course. We have so many students that are faced with traumas, and to be able to recognize the invisible backpacks that our students are carrying to provide support and resources are so important!

I absolutely loved the fact this course is self-paced and being able to do it on my time is of utmost importance with my juggling act of a life between teaching, coaching, and having a toddler and newborn at home. The book also was very specific to real life issues with educating today and I really appreciated that part as so many people do not understand half of what we have to deal with as educators. I didn't love the software used for the quizzes or how many pages were covered per quiz but I dealt with it. Lastly, I would definitely recommend this book to any other colleagues.
I loved the author, her honesty, and her message. My favorite parts were connection before direction, FIELD, and the light up. I will absolutely recommend the course to my co-workers. I think this book study is great for anyone that works in a school or with kids.
I would absolutely recommend this book study to a friend. I actually chose this book study because a friend and coworker suggested it to me! I really enjoyed Dr. Carrington's perspectives and that the ideas she presented could immediately be applied to my life and teaching. Years ago I went to a conference where I learned about ACE scores and it was really nice to touch on that again and bring that information to the forefront of my mind. I look forward to doing the "Teachers These Days" book study soon!
Overall, I appreciated this course and found real value in both the book and the questions and reflection that went along with it. It offered meaningful reminders and practical insights that connected directly to my daily work with students and career. I was able to think through behavior, trauma, connection, and regulation more deeply and I appreciated how the content consistently brought the focus back to relationships. The educational components were strong, relevant, and easy to connect to real situations in schools. It reinforced ideas I believe in while also stretching my thinking in helpful ways.
Dr. Carrington has many valid and thoughtful things to say, and I found her perspective grounded in experience and compassion. Her emphasis on connection, consistency, and caring deeply about both kids and educators felt authentic and important. That said, while I valued the message in her video Your Light Up Is Your Super Power, I did feel distracted at times by the language used by both Dr. Carrington and the moderator. The content itself was meaningful, but the lack of professionalism and appropriateness in their language took away from the impact for me and made it harder to fully engage with the message.
Even with that critique, I would still recommend this book study to a colleague. The overall content is valuable, the ideas are applicable, and the reminders about taking care of ourselves while caring for others are essential in this profession.
I loved this course. I enjoy when a book study can be done at your own pace, because, as we all know, life happens! So self-paced is great! I really enjoy how Jody doesn’t hold back in her message. She has a passion for what she does and isn’t afraid to get her message across. Her written words and watching her video were so intriguing. I also really enjoyed all the other videos and speakers as well. It’s always nice to hear other peoples’ stories and viewpoints.
There was nothing I disliked. I would definitely recommend (and already have) recommended this to colleagues.
This was a great course that offered many opportunities to share our thoughts and opinions and also rely on other educators for bits of advice and help along our paths while working in the school. This course was organized, thorough, and neatly put-together to help bring in and tie each topic together nicely. Having the videos as well also helped put more perspective and thought into each section as it was a nice, additional tool to further deepen our perspective about this book. I would highly recommend this course to anyone as it can be such a helpful tool to use and reflect on in our careers.
I really enjoyed this book because I went through what she was writing about. I have stayed in teaching, however I am going back into the school system. The last 3 book studies have prepared me for what I have always loved, but let other things get in the way. My children are just starting families and one is in the medical field. I plan on having them read "Kids These Days". It is a book great book you can use in everyday life!!
I really enjoyed this book and was it very relatable to many things that I have gone through and/or students are going through. I always enjoy the book studies and reading books I wouldn't normally read.
This course was a strong one. I appreciated the perspective. I would recommend this course to others, although I did feel the book dragged in the second half and could have been shorter. I was surprised there was so much about self help and not as much focus on kids these days as I would have hoped. I would recommend it more than some of the courses and less than others. It was solid overall.
I liked that this course provided opportunities to reflect on my teaching practices and encouraged me to think outside the box and offer good resources as a teacher who deals with individuals who have experienced trauma. I also enjoyed the TED Talks paired with each chapter, which made the concepts more engaging and relatable. I would definitely recommend this book study to a colleague.
I really enjoyed this book study, definitely in my top 5. The videos that went along with it were great, with the Kieschnick video one that I could go back and watch over again. There have been videos that I go through and have to listen to several times to grasp, but all of these were easy to listen/watch. I definitely will recommend this book to my fellow staff members, and will add the book to my collection that they borrow from. :)

I really enjoyed the reading. Sometimes you forget that in order to allow students to learn you must connect individually with each of them. They need to know that you care. I would highly recommend this book study to a colleague

I loved Teachers These Days so much that I wanted to read Kids These Days. It gave me a great perspective check on my own bias and assumptions with colleagues and students. As well as great strategies for working with students, parents, and co-workers. This course was easy to follow and complete. I liked the blog post the most and I disliked the quizzes on occasion. I listened to the audio book and started it before I started the course. At times I found that I was too far ahead in the book and was starting to forget information I listened too. I highly recommend this course to any colleague that needs credits and in fact I did recommend Teachers These Days to my co-teacher.
LOVE LOVE LOVE your book studies!!! At the current moment, I am not a classroom teacher, but what I love is that I can use apply these books studies not only to my subbing jobs, but also in my everyday life.
I loved this book. I am not currently in a classroom but I am subbing when I can. I have used a few of the ideas in this book already as a sub and also as a parent of teenagers :) These are great reminders to use with everyone not just students in our classrooms.
I so appreciate these book studies. Mostly because I can complete it on my own timeline. That is helpful with the crazy schedule life I live. But this one especially stood out to me and spoke to me in so many ways of connections. Many times a person will question if what they are doing is what you should be doing and this book gave me that justification. That, yes, even when we feel like we are failing connection is there. Slow down, look for the joys in the job, and keep making a difference in children’s lives.
I really liked this book study! I borrowed the book from a friend, but will probably purchase it to have on hand as it has MANY good pieces of advice. It was very relatable and I also enjoyed the TED talks. I am one that prides myself on building relationships with my students, but this book helped me broaden that thinking and I like the word, connection, better. It forced me to think about not only connecting with my students daily, but also with my co-workers. I feel like this is especially important because our jobs in education are hard and we need to surround ourselves with others who will lift us up and help us get through the tough days, along with celebrating the good days! I will for sure reccomend this book/book study! Actually, I already shared information from it with my team at school and two of them let me know that they are going to sign up for this book study this summer. Yay! Knowledge is power!
I enjoyed this course and I thought it provided a unique perspective to teaching the students who are currently in school. I thought the book had many great pieces of advice to teaching those students, and it is one I will keep around to reference in the future.

I really enjoyed this book study. It gave me many ahaa! moments to think about and relate to many things that are and have gone on in my teaching and person life. I like how the author spoke honestly about many of the topics that were covered and she gave great advice on ways to deal with of those situations that were covered in this book. I plan on reading the next book, Teachers These Days.
I really enjoyed this book! I especially loved the emphasis on making connections and how we can make better connections with our students. As always, I love the videos that go along with these book studies. I think they also provide extra advice and insight. I will be recommending this book to my colleagues.
I really enjoyed the book and videos. It just makes me think about what I am doing and how I can get better because if your not getting better, your getting worse.
I really enjoyed this book study. The most valuable part of the book for me was dealing with kids who are flipping their lid. Knowing what is going on in the brains of a student can keep me calm and not personalize things that the kid may say in their anger or tantrum. I also appreciate the part about keeping in mind the trauma that some of our students experience and try to be mindful that students may have other things happening in their lives. I enjoyed the videos and support materials. I will definitely recommend this book study to other teachers.
This course gave me an opportunity to reflect on myself as a teacher and care giver. The information I gained reading this book helped me not only better understand what my kids need, but what I need as well. I’ve always considered myself to be a positive person that enjoys helping my students feel loved and supported. Building connections with our students and their parents is an important part of the educational process. One of my favorite ideas from this book is that you are only as good as the people who hold you. Before reading this book, I did not understand fully how to connect to someone who’s experienced trauma or grief. I was careful to take note of the suggestions Jody made to help me move forward as a supportive and loving teacher.
There wasn’t anything I didn’t like about this book.
I think this is a book every teacher should read, whether you’ve been in the classroom 15 minutes or 30 years. The more educators know about “Connection,” the more they’ll be able to achieve. High expectations should be set for everyone, regardless of what they’ve gone through or are going through. Kids will thrive when they feel loved and supported by teachers who are loved and supported.
I really appreciated the practical focus on building connections rather than just managing behaviors. The overall message was a great reminder of why we do this work. I would definitely recommend this study to a colleague, as it offers a helpful perspective on supporting our most struggling students.
Please post your thoughts about this course below. What did you like about it? What didn’t you like about it? Would you recommend this book study to a colleague?
Its was really nice to not just read about behaviors and what to do to try and fix them. It went back to the basics and that connection and relationships really do matter, along with loving and supporting them. We all know that kids have a lot going on and that basic needs aren't always happening.
I think teachers should read this book to help refresh their minds that things change and how they can support themselves as well as new students coming into their classrooms.
First of all, I am not a reader. I am a kindergarten teacher that loves to teach reading. But in my free time, I do not pick up a book to read. I found reading this book to be very entertaining. I did not lose interest. I loved how the author was real. She have such insight to real issues that educators have. I would totally recommend this book to anyone. My husband is actually going to begin reading it now that I am finished. I enjoyed and learned so much in this book study.

This was a great book. I really enjoyed it so much that I read/listened to it in one weekend! That does not EVER happen! The content was amazing and so many great points were made that I can put into practice now. One key take away for me as a kindergarten teacher was change the mindset of "attention seeking" to "connection seeking". That is huge! I would for sure recommend this book to a colleague as well as this book study. These book studies are amazing, and I am thankful they exist for college credit. There is nothing that I did not like about the book study. Thanks for another great course!
Overall I found the course to be very fulfilling and challenging. I liked that the reading was very purposeful and useful for me as a high school teacher and coach. The videos assigned along with the readings were well aligned and connected to the overall theme of that section very well. These were great additions to the reading and offered multiple perspectives which I enjoyed. I would definitely recommend this book to a colleague in the future.
